A 2-year post-doctoral position in available for an international research project based in the Dept of Bioengineering at the Grenoble Institute of Technology (MINATEC, Grenoble, France), starting as early as September 1, 2014.
The post-doctoral fellow will engineer complex biomaterials systems for control of cellular microenvironments. The candidate must have a recent PhD in bioengineering or a related discipline and have extensive research experience and training in biomaterials for tissue engineering, cell culture and related techniques, and imaging biological materials using multiple modalities especially confocal and scanning electron microscopy.
MINATEC is located in Grenoble, France, a high-tech city situated in the Rhone-Alps region in southeastern France. Grenoble is known in France as the “Capital of the Alps” and its proximity to several mountain ranges lends it to being a center for outdoor activities (skiing, climbing, hiking, biking).
Description
The objective of this project is to engineer complex biomaterials systems for precise control of the 3D cellular microenvironment.
Specifically, we will engineer novel 3D microenvironments to:
(1) make scientific advances in understanding the roles of cell-cell and cell-material interactions at the micro and nano scales, and (2) enhance cell differentiation and tissue formation, primarily in the context of bone regeneration.
The ability to precisely engineer both chemical and physical properties of the microenvironment will enable important advances to healthcare and medicine. 3D printing will aid in fabricating microenvironments and, combined with polyelectrolyte film coatings, we will generate the microenvironments with controlled geometry, stiffness, and presentation of biomolecules. Four laboratories in Grenoble and one in the US will participate.
The position is funded by a NanoSciences Foundation Chair of Excellence awarded to Prof. Amy Wagoner Johnson (U. of Illinois, Dept of Mechanical Science & Engineering, USA) and host Prof. Catherine Picart (INP, CNRS). The three other laboratories in Grenoble include that of Dr. Corinne Albiges-Rizo at the Institut Albert Bonniot (IAB), Prof. Martial Balland at the Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire de Physique (LIPhy), and Prof. Rémy R. Dendievel at the Sciences et Ingénierie des Matériaux et des Procédés (SIMAP).
Interested applicants should send email with specific qualifications, a detailed CV, and contact information for three references. Please send the application materials to both Prof. Amy Wagoner Johnson (ajwj@illinois.edu) and Prof. Catherine Picart (Catherine.Picart@grenoble-inp.fr).
