The Microdevice Design Research Assistant IV will perform research and collaborate with Institute faculty, staff, fellow and students in the creation and execution of research in the area of microdevice design and microfabrication.


Microdevice Design Research Assistant


The candidate for this position will bring strong expertise and experimental background in at least one of the fields of microfluidics, microfabrication, or systems engineering. The successful candidate is expected to provide engineering and fabrication support to projects aimed at creating microengineered human organs-on-chip models.


The chosen candidate will carry out experiments, organize and analyze data and report experimental results. The candidate will contribute to internal reports, patent applications, Institute presentations, and Institute publications. He/she will also assist with procurement of equipment and supplies relating to microdevice fabrication.

Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science, Physical Sciences, Biomedical fields or related field. Two or more years of hands-on experience in bioengineering, biomedical instrumentation, microfluidics, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), biological microelectromechanical systems (BioMEMS) or micro- and nanofabrication or related experience. Education may count towards experience.


Additional Qualifications: Proficiency in computer programming and MEMS design/simulation software (e.g. COMSOL, SolidWorks, CAD, ConventorWare, ANSYS, LabView) is required. Basic knowledge of physiology, cell and molecular biology, and cell culture techniques preferred. Strong organizational and communication skills required to assist and collaborate with multidisciplinary groups of technology innovators and engineers, as well as biologists and clinicians, in a dynamic team environment. Excellent writing skills and strong commitment to educating and mentoring students, postdoctoral fellows, and clinicians.
